Pokémon GO is one of the most used free apps in the App Store, and even in the Google Play Store right now. The game provides an augmented reality experience of the real world, complimented with the presence of virtual Pokémon, and it’s an understatement to say that people are loving it.
In this piece, we’ll talk about maintaining your Pokémon, whether it’s collecting, leveling up, or evolving them.
It’s not just the original phrase from the Pokémon theme song, it’s the truth! You want to catch them all. That’s what the game’s all about.
Let’s start with collecting them. When it comes right down to collecting Pokémon, it all comes down to chance. You really can’t control what Pokémon are going to pop up in front of you, but sometimes you get lucky and something interesting or rare pops up in front of your path and gives you the opportunity to catch it.
You can use PokéStop lures, or personal Incenses to lure Pokémon to your area to increase your odds of finding something you want. If you don’t, your chances become even more random that you’ll find something useful.
When you go get a Pokémon on your map that you’re interested in catching, you can just tap on it from your map and start throwing PokéBalls at it and hope for the best. For the most part, lower-level Pokémon are going to be easy to catch, and higher-level Pokémon are going to be harder to catch.
You can tell if a Pokémon will be easy or hard to catch by the color of the ring that appears when you tap on the PokéBall. If it’s a green ring, you can expect it to be easy. A yellow ring suggests it’ll be slightly harder. And an orange ring suggests it’ll be moderately harder, and so on.
You’re probably also going to get a lot of the same Pokémon. We suggest collecting every single one of them, because they’re all worth XP (experience), and this allows you to level up and unlock new items.
When you get more than one of the same Pokémon, you can transfer your doubles, triples, or whatever to the professor, and he will reward you with a candy for that Pokémon, which will be useful as you’ll soon learn later in this tutorial. To transfer a Pokémon, just open it up in your Pokémon inventory, and tap on the Transfer button:
We don’t recommend transferring Pokémon that you only have one of, because this means you will have to re-collect it to have it in your inventory.
When you have a good inventory of Pokémon, you’ll notice that you collect stardust and Pokémon candy with each and every catch. These items are used for powering-up Pokémon, and you should use them wisely because you don’t get a whole lot of it.
To power-up a Pokémon, you’ll pick one from your Pokémon inventory and you’ll see a Power Up button immediately under your stardust and candy count for that specific Pokémon. In the case of this Vaporeon, which is an evolved form of Eevee, you can see we have 5 Eevee candies and we have 3437 stardust.
The requirements to power-up this Vaporeon are 1600 stardust and 2 Eevee candies, which means we can power it up at at most twice with our current supplies.
Powering-up your Pokémon, as you can see, raises the Pokémon’s CP (combat power) and HP (hit-points) level. The higher your hit-points are, the more damage your Pokémon will be able to sustain in a battle.
You should be sparing with your stardust and your candies, because candies are used for more than just powering-up, and we’ll get to that in a second. The stardust, on the other hand, are pretty easy to produce by simply catching more Pokémon, but still it takes a while to accumulate them.
Another thing to note about the candies is that they’re different for each Pokémon. This means that even if I use all my Eevee candies, I will still have a separate pile of candies for my other Pokémon, and I can power those up separately with their own candy supply. You can’t use one Pokémon’s candy on a different Pokémon; it has to be the same name Pokémon, or an evolved form of it.
I suggest only powering up your strongest Pokémon that are fully evolved so that they’re combat ready whenever you plan on getting into battles at gyms, or with other players in the future when the feature is finally added.
Now as we noted, there are also other uses for candies; they are used to evolve Pokémon as well. For this reason, we don’t suggest wasting them on powering up your Pokémon until you’ve first evolved them, as this unlocks new Pokémon in your PokéDex.
For example, we have the requirement of 50 Goldeen candies to evolve this Goldeen into a Seaking. To start the evolution process, we’ll open the Goldeen from our Pokémon inventory, tap on the Evolve button, then confirm the evolution, and you’ll get to see a firework display before your eyes as the Pokémon evolves on your screen:
Because we spent 50 of our 82 Goldeen candies on this evolution process, we have 32 left that we can use to power-up our Seaking. It’s a good investment, because Seaking is the highest evolution available for Goldeen, so we won’t need to evolve one of these again.
If you’re in need of more candies, you can get more by catching more of the same Pokémon (or its base stage), or by transferring your duplicates of this Pokémon (or its base stage) to the Professor. So keep this in mind.
Now that you know a little bit more about collecting, powering-up, and evolving your Pokémon, you’re ready to start your journey as a Pokémon trainer with the free Pokémon GO app from the App Store.

Saurik has released an update for the Cydia Impactor un-jailbreaking tool on Monday. Among the changes, the too has been renamed Cydia Eraser and has received a new icon.
So what’s new? Let’s discuss…
One thing that’s for sure is Cydia Impactor hasn’t gotten much attention since its original release last year. The tool was originally created for iOS 8, and until today, it only worked with firmware up to iOS 8.4.
The tool allowed a user to remove a jailbreak from their device, essentially resetting their device to factory settings on the firmware version it’s already on without the need to restore and update on iTunes. This would make it easier to sell old devices on jailbreakable firmware versions.
Today’s update brings with it not just a new name and a new icon, but partial support for iOS 9.0 as well.
Saurik is not very detailed in what exactly this means, so it’s hard to tell exactly what Cydia Impactor is useful for in terms of iOS 9. On the other hand, some comments made by the Cydia creator on a Reddit thread do shed a little bit of light.
The Reddit thread was incorrectly entitled with “9.x support,” and Saurik got online to set things straight, saying that this update doesn’t add support for iOS 9.x, but rather partial support for only iOS 9.0.
No: I do not claim in that changelog “9.x support”, only “partial support for 9.0”.
Additionally, Saurik was also asked “what devices” and “which 9.0 firmwares” were supported by Cydia Eraser, and he noted that only firmwares that had single-step OTAs available for them were supported, which still leaves a lot of guesswork in terms of your average jailbreak user.
It is whatever Apple had a single-step OTA file available for. This tool still supports the exact same versions of the firmware as 0.9.17+53.
As it would appear, the update is minor, and just to clear up any confusion, this update does not add support for the firmwares versions 9.2-9.3.3, which are now jailbreakable thanks to Pangu.
Additionally, Saurik is very stern to note that the support is only for the 9.0 firmware, and it does not work on 9.0.x firmware versions.
So with that being said, don’t try and erase your new jailbreak with Cydia Eraser, because you’ll be highly disappointed with the results.
At this point in time, if you’re having problems with your jailbreak, the best thing to do is just restore your device via iTunes. iOS 9.3.3 is the current firmware from Apple anyways, so you can always go back to your jailbreak if you wanted to.
We hope at some point Cydia Eraser will support modern firmware versions, but it doesn’t look like that’s Saurik’s intention right now due to Apple not providing the resources necessary for the tool to work in full on Apple’s latest iOS firmware versions. So, in short, it’s not really Saurik’s fault.

The new iOS 9.2-9.3.3 jailbreak from Pangu has been all the rage over the weekend and into this week, and one of the things that stands out most about it is how it’s a semi-untethered jailbreak.
For those who want to make sure their jailbreak is being initialized correctly after each reboot, Initialized is a new jailbreak tweak that notifies you every time your jailbreak is re-initialized.
When you reboot your semi-untethered device, your jailbreak tweaks and Cydia are going to be dead and useless to you until you re-run the Pangu app that was installed on the device itself. When you do, your device resprings after the jailbreak becomes re-initialized.
Because there’s no notification or anything of that sort when you reboot your device and because you’re probably used to unethered jailbreaks by now, you may or may not forget that Cydia needs to be re-initialized. With this new jailbreak tweak, you’ll know if your tweaks are active or not because you’ll either get the notification when it turns back on, or you won’t.
When you do, you’ll know that Cydia has been re-initialized successfully. This is because it’s a Cydia Substrate jailbreak tweak, and the only way it’s going to be able to show you any notification at all is when Cydia Substrate is actually running on your device.
If it doesn’t show up upon rebooting your device, that should be a good reminder for you that you need to go in and perform the Pangu app’s re-initialization process.
Whenever you reboot your device, Cydia, Cydia Substrate, and all other important jailbreak add-ons are going to be in a dormant state until they’re re-activated by the Pangu app. Since all Cydia Substrate tweaks are going to be inactive when you reboot, you won’t typically see this notification on your Lock screen after a reboot.
What you want to do is make it a habit of yours to look for the notification, because when you do, you will know that Cydia Substrate is up and running, which means your jailbreak tweaks are too.
After you run the Pangu app, you should then see your device respring, and immeidately after, you’ll see a notification like the one above on the Lock screen that says, “Initialized: The Jailbreak has been initialized. Enjoy!”
The tweak really has no functional purpose other than to remind you that your jailbreak is up and running again, but for those who are just getting used to the semi-untether concept, it might be good to have for the time being, at least until the habit is picked up.
For what it is, it’s nothing more than a notification to let you know if your jailbreak has been initialized correctly after a respring or a reboot.
For me, an experienced jailbreaker, it seems like redundant information, but I think some newer users who aren’t yet used to the concept might enjoy the notification because it’s one that provides the peace of mind that everything’s working again after running the Pangu app.
If you want to grab Initialized, it’s available for free in Cydia’s BigBoss repository and supports iOS 9.2-9.3.3.
